Au coin du monde

Second extrait de mon Listening Journal, sur une merveilleuse et tellement relaxante chanson française.

Some piece of French music for our pleasure, with Keren Ann – also the writer of this song.

It’s one of these music without transcending lyrics, without a fascintating instrumentation, but *so* simple !
And sometimes, tired of all these deafening music we hear, we like to be rocked by some soft voice, by songs performed discreetly, and then we listen to Keren Ann’s music.

We all know the first known song of Keren Ann, « Sur le fil », coming from the album « La biographie de Luka », if I remember. I thought she would never be known more than how she was, because this kind of music isn’t the most represented on the radios. And in the last days, I saw the videoclip of this song on the TV (on W9) : I hope she will continue on this way.

If you listen carefully, you’ll see that the lyrics are not so understandable : I don’t really know what she really wants to communicate. It’s about a hours running out, perhaps the end of a relationship ? Some memories of « le premier jour du premier mois », but that’s all we can say.

So, really, don’t think about that: close your eyes, listen to the key words : « A deux pas de chez toi / A deux pas de chez moi », feel calm, released, with the sounds emanating of the guitar, of the violin. Keren’s voice is so slow, so tend, she don’t hold the words, she loves to leave long blank passages with only some instruments in the background.

Now you know why it isn’t adapted to this world full of people being stressed and (in a contradictory way) searching stressing music.
